*Kidnappers posed as sick patient
Riverside Ojobo community in Burutu LGA of Delta state was thrown into panic on Monday morning over the kidnap of a resident doctor in the community’s government hospital.
The health worker, identified Dr Wisdom Iboyitete, was reportedly abducted by gun-totting late Sunday night.
Local sources said he was responding to an emergency call at the hospital, when gunmen stormed the sleepy town, firing carelessly into the air before snatching their victim.
“They were speaking in Ijaw language as they were shooting, this made us to believe that they are from within.”
Although the motive of the kidnappers could not be ascertained at the time of this report, there were concerns that masterminds are part of the growing kidnap-for-ransom syndicates terrorising the Niger Delta.
“Dr Iboyitete has been with us in Ojobo for the past five years and there has not been any problem since then. We do not know who is behind this,” a perplex resident said.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, who confirmed the incident, said, “The people (gunmen) posed as patients, so the doctor was to treat them.”
“They kidnapped him and took him inside the water. Maybe they came with a boat. But we have mobilised policemen to that place to see what they can do,” he added.
