A local branch of Access Bank Nigeria Limited in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been shut down, over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) scare.
It was learnt that the Manager at the affected branch (names withheld) has tested positive, just as several members of staff of the branch have also taken ill since last week, raising fears that they too might have contacted the virus.
Reports that could not be independently verified indicated that a very senior staff of the branch died on Tuesday morning.
The blood samples of the branch staff have been taken for tests, and the results are being awaited with palpable fears, while customers and visitors as far back as two weeks ago have been asked to self-isolate.
“Access Bank Branch Onne (has been shut down) because of coronavirus. The Branch Manager has tested positive and almost all the staff in that branch are currently sick.”
“Their (bank’s workers) blood samples have been taken for test, expecting their result tomorrow (Wednesday).”
An insider’s statement made available to Niger Daily News further advised: “If you know anyone who has visited that Access Bank Branch in the last two weeks, should self-isolate.”
“If you recently visited the branch, please kindly self-isolate to avoid spreading the virus,” the statement added.
