Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to the player’s agent.
Frank Lampard has been keen for Chelsea to sign a new goalkeeper to challenge Kepa Arizaballaga, following the Spaniard’s poor form last season.
Chelsea have held extensive talks with Rennes over a deal for Mendy, with the French club requesting Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori as part of the deal.
But according to Mendy’s representative, Djily Dieng, a €22 million (£20.1m) deal has now been agreed between the two clubs.
Mendy is now due to travel to London to undergo a medical with Chelsea and put the finishing touches on his move to Stamford Bridge.
‘The two parties have come to an agreement,’ Dieng told Senegalese newspaper Stades.
‘All that’s left is the formalisation. It could even be done tomorrow, if all goes well.
‘Afterwards, the player himself will come to finalise everything, including having his medical examination.’
Mendy trained with Rennes on Thursday ahead of Ligue 1 clash at home to Monaco on Saturday.
