Military men have taken over the Warri Correctional Centre in Warri, after a failed attempt by inmates to break out of the facility.
It was gathered that some of the inmates set a section of the facility on fire.
“The prisoners overpowered the Nigerian Correctional Services officials and tried to make away. But they failed and soldiers were called in from the Effurun Barracks of the Nigerian Army”.
However, hoodlums went on rampage around the area and looted shops and buildings.
Worst affected areas were the Idama area, where a generator shop and many persons were dispossessed of valuables.
There were indications that some of the detainees might have escaped before the arrival of the military men.
